BIRTHDAY BEAR TRADITION

I have 9 old, wrinkly friends, who are retired or semi-retired. Five of them all used to work together and the other four are husbands. They didn't want to lose touch when they retired so they decided to meet and have lunch or dinner when it was their birthdays. However, they got disenchanted with buying a present every time, and decided instead to give a Birthday Bear (thats me.) I get passed from one birthday person to the next each time they meet. The fun part is, that I get to be dressed differently each time, usually to reflect some aspect of the recipient's personality or life.
PS: Two of my wrinklies, Chris and Bob, have gone on a working holiday tour around Australia so they don't celebrate with us very often.

LIVING IT UP ON TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN

I was so lucky when Ann chose to go to Tamborine Mountain for her birthday, because she booked us into a 5 star B&B.
Helen and Paul dressed me and smuggled me into the B&B so that I could surprise Ann on her birthday.
We had a big room with a nice bathroom. There was a lovely guest lounge and dining room. It was all very posh. So I had to mind my manners.

I was dressed as a telephone operator in the old days. When Ann was a young'n that was her job.  Helen even made me a switchboard to operate. I had headphones that looked suspiciously like ones out of an airplane. I had a plug for the switchboard which looked suspiciously like a car cigarette lighter. I also had a string bag full of groceries to take home for dinner.

I loved my blonde hair and big boobs and I hope I can get a date tonight.

Ann had a good chuckle when she saw me and we all had a great birthday breakfast.

Ann thanked Helen for making me look so beautiful.
After breakfast the oldies went off and enjoyed themselves visiting lookouts, the glow worm cave, the botanic gardens and the skywalk.

 Do you know what?

They left me here to work on the switchboard all day. Anyway I had fun listening in on all the calls and catching up with the village gossip. The food was good in the dining room too.

WALKING THE DOG

Its Paul's Birthday and we are going Indian tonight. Blimey it is cold and it is supposed to be Spring.
Paul loves walking his dog, 'Deja.' I will be able to go with him with my very own dog, 'Vue' I have a lead and my walking shoes and shorts. My shirt is a bit dirty where  Vue jumped up and left paw marks. I'm sure Deja and Vue will have fun romping in the park together. I wonder why the people behind me are looking over here at me. One of them came over later and asked what I was doing out to dinner with a bunch of wrinklies. Diane had to explain our Birthday Bear tradition. I bet they would have preferred to have a bear at their table rather than that little person in the high chair who screamed a lot.

Well thanks a lot Diane! She changed places with me so she wouldn't be sitting in the cold wind. Just as well I have thick bear fur to keep me warm.

Anyway I got to sit next to the lovely Mary who dressed me for walking and she gave me my dog, "Vue."

TENNIS WITH HELEN

It is Helen's Birthday and I'm going to stay at her house for a while.
Helen plays tennis every week and I will be going to play with her.
Diane bought me a tennis outfit with a visor and sweatbands. I also have my own racket and tennis balls.

It is hard for me to hold two balls (even one) so I have stuck the spare ball in my knickers like I see the pro's do.

A close up of my frilly skirt and the ball in my knickers. I bet you are wondering how I can hold the ball in my paw when I don't have fingers. Diane put velcro on my paw and the ball to help me.

We went to Sunnybank Hotel for lunch. I had pride of place under the balloons. Helen is happy that I am going to tennis with her. She is ordering me fish and chips for lunch. Yum! Yum!

My wrinkly friends are from L to R Bill, George, Paul, ME, Helen, Ann and Mary.
Oooooh! How I love these Birthday parties.

HOORAY! I'M IN THE TEAM

At last Diane and Bill are home from their trip overseas. Now we can go and party...hooray. I'm very excited this time because I have been chosen to be the goal keeper for "The Roar" football team. (We are not supposed to call it soccer any more so as to be in line with the rest of the world calling it football)
Ann dressed me and I waited in her lounge room, she could have turned me around so that I could watch tele too. Silly Ann has put my goaly gloves on the wrong hands. How does she expect me to catch the ball.

At last we were off to the restaurant to celebrate Diane's birthday with her wrinkly friends. They all got stuck into some delicious Thai food, I didn't get much but the starter was good.

Luckily Diane noticed that my gloves were on the wrong hands so she changed them over for me. Now I am having fun playing in the hall. I hope I don't kick the ball through a window with my very big soccer boots, whoops.... football boots.
"Okay Diane you can get back to your boring travel blog ...after you have helped me visit some of my beary good friends' blogs.

ONE OF MY OWN

It is Mary's birthday soon and it is Diane and Bill's turn to dress me.
Wow! I wonder what Bill is making for me. He's sticking two cartons together.

I wonder what it is

More glue more paper

Diane is making it pretty.

Wow! My very own poker machine. How lucky am I? Diane has got me some lovely pink club clothes.
Yippee we're going to the club and I'll have my very own machine.

Mary loves me. Mary loves me.

I'll share it with Mary, I know she enjoys a game now and then. (Not like me I'm addicted don't tell anyone)

Mary and I are very happy because after lunch we can take the machine home and play to our hearts content. I haven't won much so far, just 5 cents.

I'M ALL COSY AND WARM

It was Chris' birthday and she came back to Brisbane from Canberra for a funeral but I cheered her up on her birthday.

It is freezing in Canberra so Ann dressed me in warm clothes and she knitted me the bestest scarf.

Chris was happy to see her friends again and especially me.
At the end of the night, Diane whispered in my ear that I wasn't going back to cold Canberra with Chris but I was staying in Brisbane with the gang of oldies. I was secretly relieved as I don't like cold.

I gave my warm scarf to Chris to keep her warm in Canberra.

The old girls had fun playing with me in the restaurant and many other guests were staring at us. I had nothing to say because..................
 ................I see no evil

 I hear no evil

and I speak no evil, like all good bears should.

I'M A CARPENTER, YEAH!

Woohoo! It is time to celebrate George's birthday with my wrinkly friends.

George is often tinkering in his shed with hammer and nails and making things. So I arrived at the restaurant dressed as a carpenter together withmy tool box and saw horse.I had my hard hat on for safety but I don't know that I would pass the building site safety test with my shoes.

George was happy with his me.

Mary did a good job dressing me. I love my apron and tools. I can't wait to help George tinkering the shed.

From L to R: Diane, Mary, Ann, Helen, Paul, George and Bill (I was standing on the next table)
The wrinklies all had a superb chinese banquet at Kam Koon Restaurant in Springwood. I was happy to see Helen and Paul back from their holiday in New Zealand and Ann and George back from their holiday in Cairns. I had a table all to myself but no one gave me any banquet, no wonder I am so skinny. Maybe Ann will feed me some of her delicious jelly slice when we get home.

YODEL-AY-EE-OO

It was Bill's Birthday last month and I got to be dressed as a Swiss  Alphornbläser,  (Alphorn player). I felt very proud at the Sunnybank Hotel with my Swiss shirt and Alphorn. I had a bag of Swiss chocolates too, for my old wrinkly friends.
Yodel-ay- ee- oo toot toot on my horn.

I was very pleased to see that Chris and Bob were joining in the fun again. They have been away for a long time but the cyclone blew them back to Brisbane. Here are the old girls, Chris is in the middle.

Here are the old boys, Bob is in front, left.

Bill was very happy to see me looking all Swiss with my horn and trumpets . Bill plays the trumpet too. He was fooling around with one of the girl's bag and Diane was peeking at her soccer team on the telly.

Ahhhh it was fun to have dinner with all my old wrinklies back together again. Thank you Ann for dressing me for tonight's birthday celebration.

Yippee, I'm off to Bill and Diane's place for a while until the next birthday. Diane had to carry me because Bill is a bit shy to cuddle me in public but he'll play with me when we get home. We can play a duet on our horns.
